Green Bay Packers Right Tackle Bryan Bulaga Suffers ACL Tear, Out for the Rest of the Season
It seemed that the Green Bay Packers were right to be concerned about Bryan Bulaga's knee injury because the offensive tackle has been ruled out for the rest of the season
The team has confirmed that Bulaga tore the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during their 17–30 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday and he's done for the season.
"Bad news on Bryan Bulaga," Packers head coach Mike McCarthy said, via ESPN. "It's very unfortunate. He will be lost for the season with his knee injury. He's had a stretch of bad luck this year. It started with the ankle injury there in training camp. I feel bad for him. I thought he had clearly come off his best season last year," he continued.
Monday's game was only the second time all five members of their preferred starting offensive line were together this season. Unfortunately, Bulaga injured his knee in the fourth quarter while he was protecting quarterback Brett Hundley prior to a 46-yard completion to wide receiver Randall Cobb.
The eight-year pro appeared to have planted his right foot awkwardly during the play and he had to be helped off the field before he was taken to the locker room on a cart.
With Bulaga on the shelf for the rest of the year, Justin McCray is expected to get the start at right tackle. However, the fourth-year pro also injured his ankle during the final minutes of the game and McCarthy explained that he had to take the risk on their final drive of the night.
"Accepted risk, but I'm not trying to be cold about this," McCarthy said, according to the Packers' official website "We needed that drive. You don't want to see any of your players get hurt, but to me, you finish the game," he added.
McCray still hasn't been ruled out yet for their next game.
