'Greenleaf' Season 1 Finale and Season 2 Spoilers: Mac's Return from Prison Creates More Emotional Stir For the Greenleaf Family
Grace has so much on her plate, especially when it comes to family trials. With Uncle Mac's comeback, her load became a lot heavier.
The Season Finale of the religious-themed drama series titled "Greenleaf" was aired last Wednesday, August 31 on Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). And just when everyone thought that the difficulties and mysteries encountered by those who are serving for the church will subside on the first season's last episode, the makers of the series unraveled more family challenges, secrets, lies and new anonymities for viewers to watch for on the next season.
"Greenleaf" Season 1, Episode 13 Recap
Many fans express their feelings about the finale as most of the cases and questions remain unsolved. To most of them, the season finale came out to be like an introductory episode for season 2.
The finale episode kicked off with Grace Greenleaf under an intense custody battle with the father of her teenage daughter, Sophia (Desiree Ross). Grace lost the battle and Sophia was sent back to Phoenix to stay with her father.
Amid Grace's family trial, she had a chance to see her grandfather at the church. Because of this encounter, Grace discovered a lot of her family's secrets. She also learned that Uncle Robert "Mac" McCready (GregAlan Williams) has to do with the answers she needed to solve the Greenleaf family secrets.
Bishop James Greenleaf (Keith David) refusal to buy a property across the street from Calvary Fellowship World Ministries has added to Grace's frustration to immediately answer Greenleaf's long-hidden family mysteries. Her curiosity grew when she learned that the government is selling the property at an exceptionally low price.
At the end of the season finale, fans learned that Mac has already got out from prison.
Mac approached his sister, Lady Mae Greenleaf (Lynn Whitfield), by planting a kiss on her cheek. This act turn fans inquisitive about the next scene. However, shortly after that, the credits have started rolling.
Questions arise for "Greenleaf" Season 2
What could be the bishop's secrets which may be connected to Mac's imprisonment? All throughout the season, we have seen how he wanted so bad to seek revenge against Mac. However, the direction of the wind seems to be changing as the bishop has started to comply with Mac's demands. With the bishop's sudden cooperation with the serial rape suspect, it could possibly be connected to an evidence or any account that may damage the bishop's reputation.
Sadly, season 2 is not yet slated to air in a week. The series' followers will have to wait for its return for the questions to be answered. One thing is for sure. According to Greenleaf writer Jason Lynch, Season 2 will have 16 episodes instead of 12.
