Greg Laurie Leads Christians to Prepare for the End Times in New Book

This year’s hurricane season devastated the U.S. Gulf Coast and other areas, the Christmas 2004 tsunami killed tens of thousands in Asia, terror and chaos shuttled across America on 9/11, and war continually threatens stability in the Middle East. Christians may wonder whether these are biblical “signs of the times” and how to live in these uncertain times.

According to Laurie, however, Christians can live expectantly even in a world of uncertainty.

“As Christians, we do not have to be afraid, regardless of what is going on in the world. My future as a Christian is as bright as the promises of God,” says the pastor best known for his international Harvest Crusades. “No matter what happens, I know that God is still in control of my life. The same is true of you.”

In his latest book, Laurie professes that the recent disasters are the fulfillment of the Bible’s prophecies.

“I believe we are living the end times right now. We are seeing things happen on a yearly basis—and even on a monthly basis—that remind us Jesus Christ is coming back,” says Laurie.

“But God wants us to live confidently in the middle of turmoil,” he adds. “Jesus said, ‘Now when these things happen, look up and lift your heads, because your redemption draws near’” (Luke 21:28).

In Are These the Last Days? Laurie attempts to guide readers through the prophecies in the Bible, ending with the return of Christ, and he draws parallels to past and current world events.

He also offers biblical counsel on preparing to live in a quickly changing world. Spiritual preparation begins by watching for Him, Laurie says.

Christians need to be paying careful attention to the world, and at the same time, keep the lightest hold possible on the things of this world, according to an announcement recently released about Laurie’s book. This wisdom, it adds, comes from Luke 12:37.

“Be watching for Him. As Christians, we need to be paying careful attention to this world around us, and at the same time, keep the lightest hold possible on the things of this world,” it continues, noting Luke 12:37.

Secondly, “Be ready to go. We should not be doing anything that we would be ashamed to be doing when Jesus comes back again. Is your life right with God right now? Are there some things that you should change?”

Third, Christians must “anxiously await” his return, Laurie says. Christians should long for the return, and lastly, be at work.

“If watching is the evidence of faith, then working is the evidence of faith in action. Watching for the Lord’s return will help us prepare our lives, but working will assure that we bring others with us.”

Greg Laurie has authored a number of books, including the Gold Medallion Award-winner The Upside Down Church and Losers and Winners, Saint and Sinners.

Laurie’s daily radio program, A New Beginning, airs nationally and overseas, and his weekly television program, Knowing God, airs on the Trinity Broadcasting Network.

His Harvest Crusades drew more than 3.3 million people to arenas and stadiums in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since 1990.

Are These the Last Days? will be available in bookstores Feb. 10 through Regal Books (www.regalbooks.com) and at Barnes & Noble.
