'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 News, Spoilers: Ben Gets 6-Month Suspension; April and Jackson Reconcile
Dr. Ben Warren (Jason George) and his professional and personal relationships with his wife, Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), were the focus of this week's special two-hour "Grey's Anatomy" episode.
On Thursday, Ben found himself having to make a difficult situation after getting stuck in an elevator with a pregnant woman. When Grey Sloan suddenly goes into lockdown, Ben and the woman are trapped inside. He then has to decide whether or not to risk operating on her without the proper surgical equipment or to wait for the elevator doors to open and rushing her to an OR.
Ultimately, Ben decided to perform the surgery in the elevator. But after the woman dies, his decision is called into question, resulting in a six-month suspension handed down by his wife and boss.
"If the woman and or baby had lived, some people would see Ben as a hero," George told PEOPLE. "You can do the right thing and still have a bad outcome."
Now that Ben is stuck with a six-month suspension from his internship, which will certainly derail his goal of becoming a surgeon, how will his marriage fare?
"Ben thinks, as his wife, Miranda should have had his back no matter what," the actor explained. "But instead, she was going to ruin his career."
"They have to earn back trust from each other," he said. And that is not something that will occur over the course of one episode, the actor told the magazine.
"They have a lot to figure out," the "Grey's Anatomy" cast member said.
But while the episode showed Ben and Miranda's relationship hitting a major obstacle, it also found April (Sarah Drew) and Jackson (Jesse Williams) finally putting aside their differences for the sake of their unborn child.
"I don't know if we can fix us," Jackson said in the episode. "I don't know if we should. But I know I don't like who I am turning into."
"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
