'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 Spoilers, Plot News: Henderson to Replace McDreamy

Season 11 of hit TV show series "Grey's Anatomy" caught fans off guard when one of its main characters, Dr. Dereck Shepherd (played by Patrick Dempsey), died. Fans expressed their dismay with the season finale, creating major online frenzy in the attempt to bring Dempsey back.

But with McDreamy now out of the series, Meredith (played by Ellen Pompeo) is set to have a new love interest. Martin Henderson has been recruited as a series regular in the show to take the place of Dempsey. Henderson will play a new surgeon at the hospital and new lover of Meredith.

Pompeo expressed her enthusiasm about this over Twitter.

"@shondarhimes knows how to pick them…My brothers…I mean," she wrote. She was referring to Kevin McKidd, Jesse Williams, Justin Chambers, Jason George and Giacomo Gianniotti. Season 12 is expected to be packed with serious eye candy for viewers.

Meanwhile, actress Chandra Wilson, who plays the influential doctor Miranda Bailey, confirmed in an interview with Zap2it regarding her character's return. She also said that her character's return after giving birth to a child and a painful divorce also marks the return of the classic, blatantly tough Bailey.

"(You'll see) some self-confidence that you haven't seen in a while from her coming out," she said in the interview.

And with the Chief of Surgery position vacant at Grey Sloane Memorial Hospital, she is set out to take that spot whatever it takes.

"It looks like from what I'm reading in the next script, she's across the board giving people a hard time. That's why I'm saying it's some classic Bailey about to come out," Wilson added.

The Bailey from seasons 1 and 2 may be just what the fans need after Derek's undue exit. This new season is said to bring back some of the old charisma of "Grey's Anatomy."

"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 is scheduled to premiere on ABC this Sept. 24.
