'Grey's Anatomy' season 12 spoilers: The show reinvents itself

The producers of the show are teasing fans with an epic reinvention saying that "they believe that the series will continue to run for many years," despite the fact that they have killed off a very important character that was a fan favorite.

As part of the reinvention of the series, it will be much lighter than ever before since there will be significantly less drama and more laughter. The season will feature the most awkward living arrangements ever since Meredith has moved back into her mother's house and now has to share the space with Maggie (Kelly McCreary) and her sister-in-law Amelia (Caterina Scorsone).

The new season will also introduce new characters as Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) will have new love interests. Callie's bisexuality will be further explored, while Arizona will find herself once more. Maggie will focus her attention on her chosen family, while Amelia will redefine herself and learn to stand on her own two feet.

All the characters on the show will experience revitalization and redefinition and there will be genuine laughter. Even the sets have been changed to a much lighter color. Actor Martin Henderson is part of the show as a new cast member, but his character will only appear mid-season and there is no word yet on what his role is.

The first episode will take place three months later. Actress Chandra Wilson, who plays Miranda Bailey on the show, said that "fans will get to see classic Bailey as she was in the first season, scary but lovable." Miranda has been going through some personal problems, hence she was a bit low key in the past seasons. But now, the Bailey that everyone feared and admired is back and is interested in one thing and one thing only — becoming the new chief.

Meanwhile, actress Sarah Drew who plays the kooky April said that she "has no plans on leaving the show especially if [her] character continues to grow." Last season, April's storyline had a sad undertone as her child with Jackson died due to an unusual and incurable rare disease that caused their temporary separation.

Actress Ellen Pompeo, who plays Meredith Grey, is excited for the new season. Grey will be trying to move on from her husband's death next season and she will most likely get a new love interest. Meanwhile, Justin Chambers who plays Alex Karev mentioned that there will be trouble in paradise as his character's relationship with Jo will end.

The new season of "Grey's Anatomy" will air on Sept. 24 at 8 pm.
