'Grey's Anatomy' Season 12 to be lighthearted but emotional too.
The first look of Meredith as she will appear in "'Grey's Anatomy: Season 12" is out. Meredith is in grey sleeping pajamas with white piping. She looks irritated and seems to be asking, "So what?" The first look clearly tells us that Meredith has moved back to her mother's house, along with her sister-in-law and half-sister after her husband died.
Showrunner Shonda Rhimes points to the lighter side of "Grey's Anatomy" with the awkward living arrangements creating lots of room for laughter. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she says, "Right now it's very funny. Those three women are very different and don't have very much in common, which is fantastic. Meredith needs support right now and she is related to them so it's not the same as when she was living with Izzie (Katherine Heigl) and George (T.R. Knight) and liked them. She doesn't necessarily need to like them to love them and be in a house with them. It's a fascinating dynamic — it's family."
Everybody agrees that Season 11 was sad and depressing and shocking to say the least when Patrick Dempsey's character died. Now the creators want laughs, but the kind that says, "We have not forgotten but we plan to move ahead as best as we can." So how are the creators going to do it?

The characters, having experienced personal tragedies, are now coping with the help of humor. The script has been kept easy and laugh lines are many. Of the script reading, Shonda Rhimes revealed that "We had a table read last week in which I have never heard the entire room laugh that much — I want to say since season one — the entire room was laughing and everybody broke into applause when we were done reading."
It has been reported that even the sets are livelier and have a light color scheme.
All this means that "Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 will mark a real shift in its tone this time.
"Grey's Anatomy" Season 12 is set to air on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. on ABC.
