'Grey's Anatomy' Season 13 Episode 13: April Faces Challenges in Her New Position as Her Colleagues Rise Against Her
The upcoming episode of "Grey's Anatomy" season 13 will see Dr. April Keper (Sarah Drew) calling the shots as the new chief of general surgery. The position is, of course, only temporary, but the change definitely does not sit well with some of her colleagues.
The synopsis of the next episode, titled "It Only Gets Much Worse," states that April will find herself facing some difficult challenges as she starts her first day as the interim chief of general surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. Meanwhile, Dr. Eliza Minnick (Marika Dominczyk) begins her next teaching step and the residents are all looking forward to it. However, things do not turn out very well as conflicting attendings get in the way.
A teaser trailer has also been released for the new episode. It features April struggling to get the hang of her new job as her colleagues belittle or go against her. Her new commanding position is even questioned. "Is Dr. Grey out sick or something?" April is asked by another doctor as the video starts out. April then clues him in on recent developments and he seems surprised.
And while April's new job is certainly something to be proud of, her colleagues do not seem to be on her side. Instead of encouraging her and calming down her nerves, she is met with contempt and sarcasm. April is clearly affected by this, as evidenced by her downtrodden look in one scene.
Even the patients do not think April deserves the job. In one scene, as she prepares to introduce herself, the patient interrupts and says she is "not Dr. Grey." The other doctors doubt April's capabilities, and Maggie (Kelly McCreary) even calls her a traitor after she defends herself.
April's assignment as interim chief of general surgery was brought about by the previous episode's events when Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) got herself suspended.
"Grey's Anatomy" season 13 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
