Groups Work on 30M Unregistered Christian Voters Prior to Election Day
With about five weeks to go before the Nov. 6 presidential election, several groups are working tirelessly to register what some believe are upwards of 30 million Christians that are not yet signed up to cast their ballot.
The staggering number of unregistered Christian votes comes from an organization called Champion The Vote, a non-partisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to actively advance the traditional values of America's founding fathers.
According to the group's website, "Of the 60 million Christians in the U.S., only 30 million of them vote in any given election or are even registered to vote. Our research has shown that it only takes 5 million votes to decide an election."
"We believe that if Christian voters will make their voices heard on Election Day, we can bring about positive change in America. Our nation was founded on Biblical principles, but God has been expunged from our culture, and as a consequence, our nation is in an ethical and moral mess."
There are 73 "partners" that are part of Champion the Vote, two of which include the Faith and Freedom Coalition and Concerned Women for America.
Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women of America, says her group has spent over $8 million in media advertising to encourage women to vote and is working tirelessly through a bus tour and registration booths at churches to encourage women to exercise their hard-fought right to vote.
"Women have carried every presidential election since 1964 and we discovered that Christian women in particular are under-represented in the 60 million Christians that are out there," Nance told The Christian Post. "I'm concerned that enough women – who are swamped with the daily tasks of work, raising families or caring for loved ones – are not paying attention to why this election is critical to them and their families; not only for women, but for all Christians."
Nance also says that many women are "mugged by reality," in that they are so overwhelmed with life they don't think about all the sacrifices that were made on their behalf.
"Our goal is to remind women how hard the suffrage women worked for the right to vote. American women are the envy of women around the world and why we don't grasp and utilize our right to vote is beyond my imagination. Yet we all need to pray that Christians vote and vote their values on Nov. 6."
Faith & Freedom Coalition Executive Director Gary Marx also weighed in on the issue and specifically what they are doing to register Christian voters.
"We targeted 1.977 million unregistered conservative people of faith in seven target states as part of our voter registration project mailing reaching out to FL, OH, VA, NV, CO, IA, and NC," Marx told CP in an email. "We followed up all of those with a phone call from our friend Gov. Mike Huckabee encouraging them 'to get off the bench and get in the game' and make their voice heard in this critical election cycle. Volunteer activists are now chasing down those folks with phone calls."
According to the Family Research Council, voter registration deadlines for key states in the upcoming presidential election, are as follows: Colorado: Oct. 9; Florida: Oct. 9; Iowa: Oct. 26; Nevada: Oct. 16; New Hampshire: Oct. 27; North Carolina: Oct. 12; Ohio: Oct. 9; Virginia: Oct. 15; and Wisconsin: Oct. 17.
