GTX 980 Ti Release Date Delayed to 2016 Due to Production Problems

The much-awaited NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti, touted as "the most advanced graphics processing unit," will not be available for release until 2016, according to recent reports.

NVIDIA's production delay is mainly due to a delay in acquiring manufacturing equipment in order to make an important subcomponent of the graphics processing unit (GPU) which is the 16nm FinFET+ chip, according to WCCFtech. The company behind the 16nm production recently acquired the much needed equipment that will enable them to start volume production of 16nm FinFET by the second quarter or third quarter of 2015. This schedule reportedly sets back NVIDIA GPU production by another three to six months.

NVIDIA reportedly announced in January that GTX 980 Ti will be released in April but in limited quantities. According to a report in Kdramastars, it will be only be available on the MSI, Asus, EVGA and "their own reference cards" because of the aforementioned production problems. The report however reiterated that there is no official release date for both the GTX 980 Ti and the GTX 970 8GB variants.
