'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News, Cast, Spoilers: Thanos Is Not the Father of Star-Lord
The success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" was so unexpected that when the sequel was announced, the current schedule of Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was suddenly adjusted to accommodate it. Since then, many have been clamoring for news on what the second installment could be all about.
Recently, Bradley Cooper, who voices Rocket Raccoon in the franchise, had an interview while promoting his latest film "Burnt" with Sienna Miller. During the interview, he was suddenly asked who the main villain for the next movie was going to be in which he laughed and just gave a sudden and somehow awkward answer that it was going to be Thanos (Josh Brolin). Of course, many immediately jumped to his words and assumed that he revealed a major information about the upcoming film. He also further added that Brolin "played what's his name's dad," which was assumed that he was referring to Star-Lord.
Now according to Screen Rant, this apparently isn't the case. Cooper's answer during that time was apparently nothing but a wild guess considering Thanos' cameo in the last movie. As to the "dad" reference, it's believed that Cooper may be talking about the moment when Ronan the Accuser was telling about his failed mission to Thanos.

Writer-director James Gunn took it upon himself to stop the ongoing rumor to clarify the situation with the fans. He made a series a of tweets revealing how Bradley Cooper had not even read the script during that time. Gunn started to shut down the rumors when he first posted, "I would say the epitome of jumping the shark was when Fonzie jumped the shark." He then followed it with a clear message, "In response to all the stories coming out, Bradley Cooper didn't reveal anything. He just got the script and hasn't read it yet. I promise." Furthermore, it isn't only Cooper who just got the script but as well as other cast members, including Dave Batista.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is set to start production February next year and the movie is expected to be released on May 5, 2017.
