'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News: Director Intends to Keep the Film Separate From Upcoming Marvel Movies

Fans of the Marvel movies who are expecting Star Lord or Groot to appear alongside the Avengers may be disappointed as the "Guardians of the Galaxy" director says that this is highly unlikely. Though Marvel movies are known to have different characters crossing over—when they're not all in the same place such as in the "Avenger" movies—the characters in "Guardians" clearly inhabit a different world. This is perhaps what sets the "Guardians of the Galaxy" apart, because though it takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is a very self-contained and separate story, and this is what makes it attractive to audiences.

In a recent interview with MTV about the Blu-Ray and DVD release of "Guardians of the Galaxy," director James Gunn said that future plots in the MCU will not affect what he plans to do with "Guardians of the Galaxy 2."

"I don't feel beholden to that stuff at all," said Gunn. "I think it's really about the Guardians and what they are doing. We're not subservient to the Avengers. Guardians 2 is not a movie that's made to move toward [The Avengers:] Infinity War. It's something that's made to move toward future cosmic movies, so I don't feel that that is something that affects me that much."
