Guardians of the Galaxy 2: Sequel Greenlit by Marvel, No Earthlings to Be Added
Marvel has officially given the nod to make the sequel to this summer's blockbuster hit "Guardians of the Galaxy." With the film getting great reviews and edging out "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" in box office earnings, fans wonder how the filmmakers will approach the next film to make it even bigger than the first one. Will there be new characters in the sequel? And will there be another earthling joining the cast?
In an interview with Collider, director James Gunn said that he wanted to "steer clear" of adding any other humans to the movie franchise as he wants to make Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) the focus when it comes to earthlings in the movie.
However, Gunn said that he plans to "introduce new female characters into the world of Guardians as soon as he can." Given that Zoe Saldana's performance on the movie was well-received, the director appears to give the option of adding another female character some serious thought. Other than Saldana's Gamora, her half sister, Nebula (Karen Gillan) was also featured in the film, and both actresses have reportedly signed on for the sequel.
One character who won't be seen in the sequel is Carol Danvers, also known as Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel. Though she won't be in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," Collider says that "he [Gunn] agreed that more than likely, Carol Danvers would appear sooner than later in the Marvel movies."
The director did not specify as to which Marvel movie the superhero would make her appearance.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will premiere on July 28, 2017.
