'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' Release Date, News: Film Creates Buzz After Latest Trailer

Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been clamoring to get more action from the fun-filled bickering of the comical ensemble of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." What it has achieved thus far, however, is no laughing matter and is something for the books.

According to Variety, the sequel has created more than 100,000 new conversations last week, totaling to over 600,000 cumulative conversations in social media. This places the film only second to Disney's live remake of the classic "Beauty and the Beast," which led with only over a thousand new conversations but has amassed more than a million discussions.

If one is to speculate how the movie garnered these numbers, it can primarily be contributed to the latest official trailer that was released during the start of the month. It has never run short of humor, firepower and plot twists, which could be something that commanded the interests of avid fans.

The newest teaser, aside from the points stated above, is big with a lot of things. First, it appears the sequel is going all out with heavy artillery. It can be recalled that Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) is complaining as to why Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is using guns when she has been a blade fighter all along, and then, later on, she appears with a huge blaster that looks very taxing to carry.

Aside from guns, it is also filled with references to the family. In one of the scenes, Nebula (Karen Gillan) questions how the group could consider each other friends when all they do is yelling at each other. To this statement, Drax (Dave Bautista) replies that they are more than friends, but is a family. One can also remember that Nebula and Gamora are sisters, so there's that reunion.

Perhaps the more explosive scene was Star Lord's reunion with his father, Ego (Kurt Russell). Director James Gunn told USA Today that the film will be tackling their relationship, and so the latest trailer was the first glimpse of the father-son reunion.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" springs into action on May 5, 2017.
