Gwyneth Paltrow was forced to defend a controversial tweet that she posted over the weekend which ignited racial debates on Twitter.

The Academy Award-winning Actress was heavily criticized after using the n-word in a Twitter post where she posted a picture of herself at a Jay-Z and Kanye West concert in Paris alongside the headline "N----- in paris for real."

"Hold up. It's the title of the song!" Paltrow shot back at fans on Twitter after receiving backlash.

While some fans sympathized with Paltrow, insisting that the 39-year-old did not hold any malice, others believe that her tweet was racially insensitive.

"Idk why it's so bad for her to say it when she was quoting the title of the song.. lol Eh, I still wouldn't. :p," Laura Elliot tweeted.

"Just because you have Black friends you can NOT say the 'N' word unless you also call your children that ---- sometimes," Dallas Penn tweeted.

"This whole Gwyneth Paltrow thing is being taken out of proportion. Sure, it's a bad word, but she wasn't using it like that," Narmeen 'Narnia' tweeted.

The mother of two was photographed at the widely applauded concert with her best friend Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Director Spike Lee and Terius "The Dream" Nash who responded to the backlash in Paltrow's defense.

"[N-----] doesn't have any power over me which is why this will be the last thing I say about it. A word means something when u react to it! Context is everything. Meaning it in the context as a Song which is how we Sold it to the world!!!!!! it is what it is," The Dream wrote via Facebook.

"I've seen people not use the Word at all and have been the most racist people rather than use it in the context as the song it self. Actually [N------] was in Paris! Lol stop wasting gods time Do something with your life! Love not War," he added.
