Gwyneth Paltrow Tops 'World's Best Dressed' List

A longtime fashion icon, Gwyneth Paltrow has finally earned People magazine's "World's Best Dressed Woman" this year.

The publication announced the news Wednesday, honoring the 39-year-old actress.

"She has a uniform: It's simple, not overdone," explained Paltrow's stylist Elizabeth Saltzman speaking to People magazine. The stylist said her celebrity client never blindly follows trends, but wears what appeals to her.

"She goes, 'I'm happy – and that matters more.' It's what sets her apart from the rest," added Saltzman.

Paltrow, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, has appeared in dozens of films and has also penned a cookbook, "My Father's Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family & Togetherness."

The Oscar-winning actress gained hundreds of fashion fan followers after her appearance at the 2010 Oscars in a white cape by Tom Ford. Also, Paltrow is well known for chic looks that have included styles by Prada, Stella McCartney, and many more.

People magazine's 2012 Best Dressed list also named nine other leading ladies of fashion, including the Duchess of Cambridge, who came in at No. 2.

Also known as her maiden name Kate Middleton, Duchess Catherine is recognized internationally for her classic style. Moreover, her iconic wedding dress during the royal wedding last year spawned dozens of bridal trends including long-sleeved gowns and lace.

Coming in at No. 3 on the list, silver screen darling Emma Stone earned "Best Red Carpet Style" by the magazine, while the Kardashian sisters took fourth place. Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe are well known for setting trends and even own a designer label, Kardashian Kollection.

Other notable entries to 2012's Best Dressed included Victoria's Secret model Miranda Kerr, actresses Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Alba, and Diane Kruger, and Jennifer Lawrence, and last but not least, fashion risk-taker Rihanna.
