'Half-Life 3' News: Title To Be Brought To Life Without Marc Laidlaw?
Will "Half-Life 3" be brought to life at all, so to speak, after one of its developers, Marc Laidlaw, decided to leave the team behind the game?
This is one of the questions gamers and fans of the "Half-Life" series ask while anticipating confirmations on the release of the game.
According to Parent Herald, the primary reason why Laidlaw decided to drop the game is that he feels that he is too old for the gaming industry. He said that when he started contributing his expertise to the industry almost two decades ago, he was already dubbed as "old man Laidlaw".
"The little baby level designer who gave me that that nickname is now older than I was then," he said.
While recognizing the fact that he had had a good run in the industry which he had been a part of for quite a while, Laidlaw said that he had been feeling the need to have a break away from the highly stressful world of game production and focus on self-directed writing projects instead.
With the news of Laidlaw abandoning "Half-Life 3," it is but understandable for some fans of the game to raise questions on its fate. Whether it is pushing through or not, there's still no official statement yet from Valve and everything is still up in the air, at least, as far as the fans are concerned.
However, it seems that the "Half-Life" sequel is seeing light, after all, if other reports are to be believed. Mirror reported last month that a certain user on the document-sharing website Pastebin alleged that he had inside information about the game and that it will no longer be called as "Half-Life 2 Episode 3," as reported back then. Rather, the game will be referred to as "Half-Life 3."
Parent Herald earlier reported the possibility of the game having its release within the year, after a certain Reddit user posted similar information that was posted on Pastebin. What makes the rumor seem valid is that Valve allegedly told the moderators to delete the conversation, and, since then, the forum can no longer be accessed. However, without any confirmation from Valve itself, such a speculation should only be taken with a grain of salt, warned Parent Herald.
"A moderator of that sub confirmed that the user had sent proof of their legitimacy. At around 4:30 PM EST, the thread was removed because Valve apparently contacted the mod and asked him to remove it," a source reportedly said.
Meanwhile, the fan-made game called "Prospekt," which tells about continuing events after "Half-Life 2," has finally been released. Neurogadget reported earlier that Valve granted its developer the green light to use "Half-Life" assets and characters.
