'Half-Life 3' Release Date Rumors 2015: Game Not Happening Anytime Soon? (VIDEO)
Speculations have continued to surface that "Half-Life 3" won't be seeing a release anytime soon.
Even as fans await confirmation of a release date, rumors persist the latest "Half-Life" sequel isn't happening in the near future.
According to YouTube channel, The Know, the next installment to the universally acclaimed sci-fi video game series is still firmly in the development stage. Although the game's storyline, script and sequence of events are already completed, developer Valve Corporation isn't releasing the game soon.
Valve's management may not be interested in debuting the sequel in the face of the huge income stream "DOTA 2" and its other titles are making for the developer on Steam, and it has placed a skeleton crew of only 10 people working on "Half-Life 3."
Valve is also said to have moved on to other projects, supposedly moving the team of 100 people initially fleshing out "Half-Life 3" to work other game titles
Rumors have also surfaced indicating the game, if does see release, will launch in virtual reality mode. With Sony's Project Morpheus, Microsoft's HoloLens and Oculus Rift set to corner the market on VR gaming headsets, Valve may capitalize on the new gaming medium for "Half-Life 3."
A teaser poster and logo of what was believed to be "Half-Life 3" appeared on Valve's website and went viral earlier this month, but was immediately removed, to the game series' fans great disappointment. According to a denial statement released by the developer, it inferred an avid gamer may have done a hacking job on the website.
While the game's development remains at a snail's pace, fans have continued to keep hope alive the third sequel's release will be announced soon.
"Half-Life" follows the story of theoretical physicist, Dr. Gordon Freeman, who attempts to escape from a secret underground research lab after the facilities' teleportation technology experiments go wrong.
