Halo 5 Guardians Release Date Announced for Fall of 2015; Game Will Build on Best Parts of Halo 4

Halo 5: Guardians was announced to be arriving on the Xbox One in fall of 2015 after months of speculation.

"In the tradition of every Halo game since its debut in 2001, it is a massive and exciting project," said 343 Industries general manager Bonnie Ross in a statement from the company. "Halo 5: Guardians is a bigger effort than Halo 4. That applies to the content and scope of the game, as well as the technology in what's now a brand new and more powerful engine. Certainly there are some core elements carried over from prior games, but we've invested a huge effort in retooling our tech to take full advantage of the Xbox One's hardware and ecosystem to create worlds and experiences worthy of next-gen."

Ross said that Halo 5 will build on what they learned and used in Halo 4. Using the previous game's technology and understanding will allow them to create a better game.

"Many fans noted that I was very deliberate with my phrasing on stage at E3 last year. I spoke about a 'journey,' rather than a destination, and that journey definitely begins in 2014 with a giant leap, rather than one small step," he continued.

What he was referring to was last year's announcement at E3 when he said, "In 2014, Halo combat will truly evolve and your journey with Halo on Xbox One begins."

This year also promises the Halo 2 10 Year Anniversary game and the Steven Speilberg Halo series.

"We're proud of what we accomplished with our first release in Halo 4 and now we're focused on something much more transformative as we make the leap to the next generation of Xbox," 343i executive producer Josh Holmes said back in January reported Gamespot.

Earlier this year Halo senior PR Manager Rob Semsey hinted at Halo's return in 2014 with a series of Tweets.
