'Halo Wars 2' Speech-to-Text Chat in the Works
Microsoft is working on a brand-new pilot feature called the Game Chat Transcription for its hit real-time strategy game, "Halo Wars 2."
This feature will allow users to convert speech into text and the other way around. The studio discussed the feature, which will be first seen in action in "Halo Wars 2," on its blog.
"Speech-to-text provides the ability to convert all player's voice communications in the game chat into text, so the player using this feature can read the text on their screen in real-time," Microsoft explained.
"Text-to-speech provides the ability for players using this feature to have their typed text spoken aloud to other players in the game," the tech giant went on to say.
"Halo Wars 2" players can activate the feature by going to Settings, then All settings. Select Ease of Access, where players will find the Game Chat Transcription option.
To transcribe other players' voices into text, select Speech-to-text. To have "Halo Wars 2" read the chat text aloud to other players, select Text-to-speech.
Players can choose the voice that the other gamers will hear when this option is activated from the selections provided on the Text-to-speech voice menu.
"Halo Wars 2" will be the first to experience the Game Chat Transcription. Microsoft plans to bring the feature in the near future to other titles as well.
Those who have already tried it, but are experiencing issues with it can visit the Xbox Support page, where Microsoft provides more information on the feature.
There is no word at the moment on which games will get the Game Chat Transcription feature next and when that will take place so players should keep their eyes peeled.
In other news, the "Halo Wars 2" demo for the PC, a month after the Xbox One version was made available. Gamers can grab the file, which comes with a whopping 16 GB download size, from the Windows Store.
