'Halo Wars 3' news: Artist Reveals Rejected Pitch

A concept artist has revealed details of the "Halo Wars 3" pitch he submitted, which got scrapped by Microsoft Studios for its rumored upcoming real-time strategy spin-off to the Halo series.

Creative Assembly's Brad Wright recently shared a collection of concept art he created for the first-person shooter (FPS) video game, stating that he posted it with Microsoft's approval. According to Kotaku, the pitch featured a base management reminiscent of the XCOM games, as well as massive space battles. Had Wright's concept been accepted, the added elements would have introduced gameplay ideas never before seen in the Halo series.

Aside from the image of a huge battle in space, Wright's other artworks included detailed shots of the base management system with its various rooms. This is where players would have customized and outfitted their main spaceship. Each chamber reportedly offered statistical bonuses, whereas some may have affected the player's performance in the actual battles. Kotaku reported that the entire set up highly resembled how gamers expand their bases in XCOM.

"Surprisingly I got the all clear from Microsoft to show this canceled pitch material," Wright said in a post on ArtStation. "I had to introduce space battles into the game style, as well as having your capital ship as your home base, to prep your ground forces."

According to Eurogamer, the artist's post is no longer available, having been replaced with a new content tagged as "Halo Wars 2 additional work done for Creative Assembly for Halo Wars 2. Property of Microsoft." There are no explanations given for the change.

Although many fans are hoping that Microsoft will soon offer more concrete plans about "Halo Wars 3," they may have to wait a long time. At the moment, the developer has seen no immediate reason to hasten up the spinoff's development.
