'Hannibal' Season 3 News: New Season Premieres June 4

NBC's psychological-horror thriller series "Hannibal" will return to air on June 4, 2015. The long-awaited third season comes more than a year after the last episode of the second season, which was aired May 23, 2014. So fans are eagerly awaiting another invitation to dinner in Dr. Hannibal Lecter's house, so to speak.

The show's creator Bryan Fuller revealed the premiere date through a tweet, with photo of Hannibal on a bike with the caption: "Get your motor runnin'."

The series is based on the novels penned by Thomas Harris about "a brilliant psychiatrist and cannibalistic serial killer" named Dr. Hannibal Lecter, which include "Red Dragon," "Silence of the Lambs," "Hannibal," and "Hannibal Rising."

While some of Harris' novels were adapted into feature films, the series differentiates itself by being true to the novels, according to Fuller. The series is set in 2010s and is said to be a prequel to the events in the novels, exploring FBI Agent Will Graham's early collaboration with Dr. Hannibal Lecter to solve initially a series of disappearances and subsequently other murders.

A report in International Business Times rounds up a few unanswered questions from the previous season's finale that fans are eagerly waiting to be answered.

The season finale was a bloody and eventful one. FBI Agent Will Graham in a last ditch attempt to capture Lecter arrives at the doctor's home and has himself gutted by Lecter. Lecter escapes and leaves him and bleeding to death. The scene does not show any indication of what happens to him, so the third season will likely start with this.

The other protagonists, Jack Crawford who is Graham's boss and Dr. Alana Bloom, a psychiatry professor and FBI profiler, were seriously wounded by Hannibal and his accomplice, Abigail Hobbs before Graham arrived. Dr. Bloom was thrown out a window by Hobbs, and Crawford was bleeding from a neck wound inflicted by Hannibal. Although the episode ended with emergency services on the way, only season 3 will show whether our protagonists are returning or not.

Hannibal, after the gruesome events over dinner, was shown escaping in style with his psychotherapist, Dr. Bedelia du Maurier. They were shown in a plane with a flight attendant speaking in French, but it was unknown where they were heading. Fans will find out on June 4.
