'Hawaii Five-0' News: Executive Producer Peter Lenkov Explains Why Major Character Had to Die, Episode 8 Plot Revealed
The 100th episode of "Hawaii Five-0" featured the death of a major character—Wo Fat (Mark Dacascos), the villainous character who's been keeping Steve McGarrett (Alex O'Loughlin) on his toes.
Executive producer Peter Lenkov sat down with TVGuide to talk about his decision to kill off the character and to reassure viewers that Wo Fat is really dead.
"It's not one of those, I was wearing a Kevlar vest, or you didn't see me after the camera left. I got up, I'm still breathing," said Lenkov to TVGuide. "He's dead. He's got a bullet in his head and there's no coming back from that."
It can be recalled that before getting shot by Steve, Wo Fat finally revealed his true connection to Steve's mother. It turns out that Doris felt so guilty over Wo Fat's mother's death that she took him in and raised him for several years, until her superiors learned about what she did and made her abandon the child.
Lenkov said that while writing the script, it wasn't in his original plans to let Wo Fat die. But because the audience was familiar with the pattern of the original series, he thought that it was a good way to surprise the viewers and that the episode would be a good closure to the story.
The show runner said that the hardest thing that he had to do was to tell Dacascos that his character was coming to an end.
"I worked with him on 'The Crow' years ago, so I've known him for a long time. And he's always been such a gracious, great guy," said Lenkov.
Meanwhile, here's the official synopsis of the next episode titled "Ka Hana Malu (Inside Job)."
"Five-0 investigates a couple's murder in which the victims' sons are the prime suspects. Meanwhile, McGarrett is shocked when Aunt Deb returns to the island with her new fiancé," the summary reads.
"Hawaii Five-0" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. on CBS.
