Hennessey Venom F5 Release Date, Specs, Price News: Hyper Car Aims for 300 MPH Top Speed

The recently unveiled Hennessey Venom F5 aims to set a new record as the fastest production supercar by accelerating to 300 miles per hour (mph).

"The F5 is an all new car, designed and built from the ground up, from the engine to the chassis. We expect the Venom F5, named for the most powerful tornado speed winds on the Fujita scale, to be the first road car capable of achieving more than 300 mph," said John Hennessey, company founder and CEO.

Hennessey actually already holds has the title for world's fastest production car courtesy of the Venom F5's predecessor, the Venom GT, which set the record back in 2014 after attaining a top speed of 270.4 mph. However, its run is for just one direction.

Bugatti has seemingly usurped this accomplishment with the 1,500-horsepower Chiron hypercar claiming to achieve 273.4 mph. The automaker is planning a top speed run sometime in 2018.

As such, Hennessey is stepping up its game with the Venom F5.

The all-new supercar is powered by a 7.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 1,600 horsepower and 1,300 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a seven-speed single-clutch paddle-shift transmission that delivers power to the rear wheels.

Apart from horsepower, the Hennessey Venom F5 was also given a lightweight chassis and an all carbon fiber body, which results in a curb weight of 2,950 pounds.

Given these components, the Venom F5 will be able to go from zero to 186 mph in under 10 seconds and 249 mph in less than 30 seconds. Top speed is expected to exceed 300 mph.

In terms of design aesthetics, the Venom F5 has a sleek and sculpted appearance. It also comes with the latest in technology and aerodynamics. Inside, the bespoke hypercar features leather and Alcantara upholstery with carbon fiber finishes.

The Hennessey Venom F5 has a starting price of $1.6 million. Only 24 samples will be made.
