Herman Cain's Latest Crisis: Alleged 13-Year Affair
Republican Party presidential hopeful Herman Cain is under fire again as new allegations of an extra-marital affair emerge only weeks after the businessman faced accusations of sexual harassment.
The new accuser, Georgia native Ginger White alleges that she and Cain had an affair that lasted almost 14 years.
White spoke of the affair to the Atlanta television station WAGA on Monday.
“I was aware that he was married, and I was also aware that I was involved in a very inappropriate situation – relationship,” she said.
White claims that she met Cain in the 1990s and a relationship ensued. She alleges that the presidential hopeful showered her with gifts and paid for her to travel to his speaking events and stay at lavish hotels.
“It wasn’t complicated,” White told WAGA. “He made it very intriguing, very fun. It was something that took me away from my sort-of humdrum life at the time.”
Cain denies the allegations saying that he and White were merely friends.
However, White provided WAGA with documentation showing cell phone records of calls and text messages between the two in the early hours of the morning as recently as September.
White said that the relationship between her and Cain ended about eight months ago, just prior to Cain announcing his presidential bid.
“I acknowledge that I knew the woman. I acknowledge that I have known (her) for about that period of time. But the accusation that I had a 13-year affair with her, no,” Cain told CNN on Monday.
Cain expressed that he has no plans to drop out of the race so long as his wife is behind him and believes he “should stay in this race.”
“The American public is tired of dirty politics and smear tactics as evident of their tremendous outpouring of support for me,” Cain said in a written statement.
“I am running for president of the United States of America, and the reality is that there are individuals out there that favor the status quo of higher taxes, more government and political cronyism and they are afraid of a Cain presidency,” he added.
White has said that she is not surprised at Cain’s denial of the affair.
“I can’t imagine him actually confirming. It’s the name of the game I guess,” she told WSB Monday night.
