'Hitman' News: Gamescom Preview Shows Denser, Bigger Environments and New Attack Methods

"Hitman" is an upcoming stealth action-adventure game being developed by IO Interactive and will be published by Square Enix. The game was previously previewed at the E3 2015, but at the recently concluded Gamescom 2015, another gameplay demo showed more details about the game's denser and bigger environments as well as new ways for crossing off one's targets.

According to an IGN report, the "Hitman" demo at the Gamescom 2015 featured the Paris fashion show level of the game. Unlike some of previous games in the "Hitman" series however, which only had as many as 40 non-playable characters in a level, the fashion show level involved over 300 non-playable characters, not including what is called the "crowd system" in the game. The report said that this was a huge step in terms of size.

Obviously, the size and density of the environment that the player needs to contend with as Agent 47 is also bigger and different. The fashion show setting offers a lot of options for a hitman to consider. There are so many places to go around, such as the loading dock, the catering area, the dressing rooms and private quarters, and the public places such as the main hall and catwalk. There are also secret rooms, a basement and an attic. All these places also offer different ways of dealing with opponents.

The report noted that the demo definitely showed many areas that the player can explore, more than the usual as shown in previous games. While it mentioned that some maneuvers may no longer be new to those who have played the game before, there are new moves that players can employ and one of these is delivering a non-lethal knockout.

Another report in GamesRadar said that the new game is more about being able to use the tools and to plan how to carry out a successful hit. The report cited a statement made by Christian Elverdam, IO Interactive's creative director.

"We've moved away from trying to create new abilities for Agent 47, since we want tools and planning to be a bigger part of the game. We want Hitman to be more of a creative game, about figuring out what's going on," he explained.
