'Hollywood Darlings' Officially Picked Up for Second Installment by Pop
It's official: "Hollywood Darlings" is getting a second season on Pop.
The network has ordered another installment from the 2017 comedy series, according to reports. News of the early renewal does not come as a huge surprise considering how the series performed during its freshman run.
For season 1, "Hollywood Darlings" kicked off as a strong ratings performer for Pop. Its premiere episode in April ranked as the network's No. 1 original series debut ever among women 18–34 in Live+7 ratings. The show's first installment spanned eight episodes that wrapped up in May. Production for season 2 is scheduled to begin this fall.
Headlined by former '90s child stars Beverly Mitchell ("7th Heaven"), Jodie Sweetin ("Full House," "Fuller House") and Christine Lakin ("Step by Step"), the series follows the real-life friendship between the lead characters.
The trio portrays exaggerated versions of themselves as they imitate their current life in Hollywood. Together, they take on different issues involving friendship, marriage, parenting and dealing with revived careers in the industry that launched them to popularity.
"'Hollywood Darlings' re-introduced us as grown-ups — three super fly and super funny women juggling it all and willing to laugh at ourselves," said the three lead stars in a statement. "Getting to continue this sisterhood on screen is the height of amazing, and we can't wait for the magic to continue in season two."
Some of the plotlines for season 1 have been inspired by their current lives as mothers. One episode saw Sweetin forced to choose between her dream sports car or a minivan she can use to cart around her two daughters. Another highlight from the show was when Lakin attempted to recreate her high school prom while Mitchell organized a slumber party for the three of them.
The second season of "Hollywood Darlings" is expected to premiere next year on Pop.
