HoloLens release date news: Developers' version to be released in 2016
Being the first augmented-reality device ever created, Microsoft's HoloLens has become a much-awaited device for the public, but its exact release date is still uncertain.
HoloLens was created with a vision to allow gamers to play games for the iOS, Android, and Windows 10. Although it has been touted to become the toughest competitor in the gaming console market, the device may be more expensive than usual and the general market could not really afford it, according to CrossMap.
An anonymous Microsoft insider told the New York Times that the HoloLens will be priced significantly higher than the average gaming consoles in the market, which is between $300 and $500. The upcoming augmented-reality device is estimated to cost around $900, the report details.
While the release date is still far at bay, HoloLens is teaming up with several game developers, including Minecraft, which will reprotedly be the main game for the device.
Microsoft HoloLens is a wireless head gear that does not need any connection to a wire, phone, or even a PC. The device, which runs Windows 10, combines virtual reality and the real world, resulting in the so-called "augmented reality."
"Microsoft HoloLens allows you to pin holograms in your physical environment and provides a new way to see your world," Microsoft describes the device in its official website. "It features see-through, holographic, high-definition lenses and spatial sound so you can see and hear holograms in the world around you."
Meanwhile, the tech giant has already released the first app supporting HoloLens on the Windows Store. The Microsoft IT Showcase is now available for free and will provide easy access to instructions on the application of Microsoft products, the International Business Times reports.
Microsoft chief Satya Nadella revealed that the HoloLens will be released to developers in 2016, but the release date for the consumer version is yet to be confirmed.
