'Homeland' season 5 plot news: Writers working with CIA
The upcoming season of "Homeland" is expected to take place in a new location, presenting new challenges for Carrie Mathison, played by Claire Danes.
It was reported that season 5 of Homeland will cover events taking place in Russia, exploring current events concerning Vladimir Putin. The series is also expected to tackle issues about ISIS. According to Deadline, the writers work with the CIA and the real intelligence from Washington, in order to stay updated with cucrent events.
Showrunner Alex Gansa explained that before the team begins writing an episode, the writers and producers head to Washington D.C. to meet up with intelligence officers, former-State Department people, and White House staffers, in order to get a perspective on what is really happening in the world and how it is being handled. While the exact plot of the series has yet to be revealed, it was reported that the series will also take place in Berlin, Germany. Gansa added, "It's largely because we've heard about them before everybody else has when we're sitting in D.C. And you're right, a lot of the conversation when we were there this past January had to do with the Islamic state, the deteriorating condition in Syria and Iraq. It also had a lot to do with Russia and Vladimir Putin. And the season this year will reflect both those problem areas. And if you notice, Berlin is kind of right between both those places."
The previous season left of with Mathison leaving the CIA, in order to raise her kid in Berlin. She will be working as head of security in Germany for the upcoming season. Executive producer Linka Glatter shared that the season will see her in a different environment that will portray her in the best state she has ever been so far in the series.
Homeland season 5 is expected to air on Oct. 4.
