'Homeland' Season 6 Release Date, Spoilers & Updates: 'Prison Break' Star Robert Knepper Joins Showtime TV Series as General Jamie McClendon – Will Peter Quinn Become a Villain?
"Homeland" will return for its Season 6 in January with new crimes to solve and interesting characters to look forward to. Showtime recently confirmed that Robert Knepper has joined the critically-acclaimed espionage drama.
The New Character
Per Variety, Knepper will portray the role of General Jamie McClendon, the representative of the Department of Defense. According to Showtime, the general will be primarily involved in orienting the nation's first female president-elect Elizabeth Keane (Elizabeth Marvel) and her team. The exact details on his role and his involvement to other characters are still being kept under wraps.

Knepper is among the original cast of "Prison Break." The 57-year-old American actor will reprise his role as T-Bag in the forthcoming reboot of the hit Fox Series. In addition to "Prison Break," he will also star in the upcoming revival of Showtime's "Twin Peaks."
Peter Quinn as a Villain?
According to another report of Variety, executive producer Alex Gansa teased that Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) is among the characters to watch out for in the next season. After facing death at the end of Season 5, Gansa revealed that the CIA operative and assassin will survive from the major stroke. He hinted that Season 6 will see a very altered and changed version of the character, personally and professionally.
Gansa's statement ignited rumors that Quinn will become a villain in the sixth season. The speculations escalated after Hollywood Life spotted Friend in the set of the series in New York City. He was donning a different look, wearing baggy clothes and sporting long hair.
What to Expect
The sixth season of "Homeland" will revolve around the plight of President Keane as the first female president of the U.S. It will highlight the transfer of presidential power, as well as the period of the election to the inauguration day. The series will be shot entirely in New York City.
Gansa disclosed that Keane is a junior senator from New York. He added that the personality of the new president-elect is a mix of Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump.
Aside from Quinn and Keane, Claire Danes' Carrie Mathison is another character to look forward to in the next installment. Danes teased that Carrie will finally be in a better mental state after battling bipolar condition in the past seasons. Her character will work for the U.S. government as an advocate of the unfairly treated Muslims.
"Homeland" will return to Showtime on Jan. 15, 2017 at 9 p.m. Aside from Season 6, the political thriller television series will also be renewed for its seventh and eighth season. Season 8 will mark the show's ending.
