'Homeland' Season 6 Spoilers: Could Carrie And Quinn Ever Be Happy Together?

In one of the most poignant and heart-wrenching scenes in the five-season run of political thriller "Homeland," Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) reads the letter that Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) has written for her, to be delivered in case of his death.

In the letter, he likens his dream of living a normal life with her to "a false glimmer" and, in a season finale moment that brought tears to many "Homeland" fans' eyes, ends his note by revealing, "I loved you."

For those who refuse to believe that this scene was Quinn's final farewell, the possibility of a Carrie-Quinn relationship in Season 6 is one to look forward to. But could Carrie and Quinn end up together, and if they do, could the two troubled characters ever find happiness in each other?

Season 5 kicked off with Carrie seemingly settled in domestic bliss. As executive producer Alex Gansa told the Sioux City Journal before the series finale aired, Carrie had been through so much in recent years that the show's staff wanted to see her in a thoroughly different environment, ensconced in a stable relationship with a stable, "normal" partner.

"I think it was weird for Claire [Danes] playing the role too because it's like, 'Is this a character for whom any kind of domestic situation would ever make sense?'" Gansa asked in the interview. "One of the things that fascinated us in the story room was how much of her life could she share with a 'normal person' and still be accepted by that person," he explained, adding, "She had done not only extraordinary things but also questionable things."

Though Carrie seemed content where she was at the beginning of the season, as viewers found out, that scenario didn't go so well. Could a relationship with someone equally flawed, someone like Quinn, be the right relationship for Carrie?

Was the hospital scene between Quinn and Carrie a cliffhanger or has Quinn, in fact, died? And if he lives, will the two ever find the normalcy they both seek and be happy together?

The sixth season of "Homeland" is expected to air sometime this year.
