Houston Democrats to Host Holiday Party at Planned Parenthood
With December already here many people have turned their focus to celebrating the Christmas season, including the Democratic Party of Harris County, located in Houston. The women of the Democratic Party have sent out invitations inviting people to attend their holiday gathering at a local Planned Parenthood clinic.
Considering that Planned Parenthood is known for providing abortions, many people – especially social conservatives – consider this to be a slap in the face to Christian pro-lifers.
The Planned Parenthood in Houston plans to eventually perform abortions for late-term pregnancies.
“Celebrating the ‘holiday’ of Christmas, which marks the birth of Christ, at an abortion clinic is an insult to Christians, and frankly, to every American. Democrats think it’s ‘festive’ to get drunk at an abortion clinic? I guess this would be their ‘choice,’ huh?” Radio host Michael Berry stated on the KTRH News Radio website located in Houston.
To clarify, the invitation states that it is a “holiday party” and not a “Christmas party.” However, considering the amount of political correctness that runs loose during this season, many conservatives do not consider this an excuse.
“I realize they say ‘Holiday Party,’ in the invitation but for the vast majority of Americans, the holiday they celebrate in December is Christmas. Heck, the invitation even used green and red lettering, the traditional colors of Christmas,” Mike Flynn, editor in chief of conservative site Big Government, wrote.
“One doesn’t have to be a dedicated pro-life activist to find the idea of this event kind of sick. I think even the majority of those who believe abortion services and clinics should be available would agree that an abortion clinic is the wrong venue for a Christmas Party. Considering that, for many Americans, Christmas is a celebration of the birth of a child, a party at an abortion clinic is a particularly sick irony.”
Many have wondered if the party will be held in an administrative building of Planned Parenthood and not where abortions take place. However, according to the invitation and the organization’s website, abortions do take place in the building that will hold the holiday party.
“We need to take this time to think about if Planned Parenthood is really worthy of our tax dollars,” Marilyn Musgrave, project director for the pro-life group Susan B. Anthony List, told The Christian Post.
“Planned Parenthood has tried to promote an image that says they simply provide health care for poor women. Lately, we’ve seen this image being chipped away.”
However, not all Christians are concerned about the location of the holiday party.
“If these Democrats were professing Christians, then I’d find it shocking and unfortunate,” said Joseph Smith, seminary student at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. Smith told The Christian Post that because it appears to be a holiday party and not a Christian Christmas party, he’s not overly concerned.
His main concern, however, lies not with a party but with “the beliefs and actions of those that support full-fledged abortion clinics.”
