Houston Texans NFL Trade and Roster Rumors: Texans Draft Deshaun Watson, Zach Cunningham and D'Onta Foreman in First Three Rounds

The Houston Texans must really like what they saw in quarterback Deshaun Watson because they sent their 2018 first-round pick and the 25th overall pick this year to the Cleveland Browns in order to trade up and select him at 12th overall. Or they could have pushed the panic button after Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes went off the board in the top 10. Well, at least they finally have another quality quarterback on their roster.

Watson will not start for the team next season, though. Texans general manager Rick Smith has already noted that he's comfortable with Tom Savage starting since the quarterback already knows their system. That should give the Texans the chance to develop Watson at his own pace.

Watson doesn't mind playing backup during his rookie season either because he can't wait to learn from the veterans.

"Learn from the veteran guys, play whatever role I have. But my main focus is getting here, learning about this city, learning about this organization, learning this system, and just being the best teammate I can be, whatever role that is. And just enjoying that," Watson stated during his introductory press conference, according to ESPN.

Watson does have the tools to develop into a top quarterback, but for now, he's going to have to take a step back and learn.

Meanwhile, the Texans selected Vanderbilt linebacker Zach Cunningham with the 57th overall pick in the draft. The team also used the 89th overall pick on University of Texas at Austin's D'Onta Foreman. Looks like the former Longhorns running back is staying in his home state.

"I'm really at a loss for words. So blessed and thankful. Honestly as the process went on, it was just something in my heart telling me that I really wanted to be a Texan and I really wanted to play for my hometown," Foreman said, according to the Houston Chronicle.
