How Georgia's controversial new voting law compares with other states
Moving forward
The Peach State is still receiving heat for its new voting law.
Multiple groups, including the New Georgia Project, Black Voters Matter and Rise Inc. have filed lawsuits claiming the law violates the Constitution and the federal Voting Rights Act by restricting black voter participation.
The New Georgia Project lawsuit challenges the absentee ID requirements, the limitations the new law places on drop boxes and the shortened runoff period. The message in the lawsuit is that most of the changes made in the bill are based on "false claims of voter fraud," reports Georgia Public Broadcasting.
U.S. Congress is considering nationwide voting standards, which would federalize elections and impose the same voting law requirements nationwide.
