How to Clean Your Arrogance
Greatly contrasting to the image Satan portrayed, a fallen angel whose arrogance saturates his every action, from his disobedience to the temptation he posed before man, Jesus showed the true image of a servant, living out a life of complete humility and obedience. If someone is arrogant, then consequent action he will take is disobedience. Likewise, if a person is humble, he will obey. Jesus taught what true humility and obedience was through his life and his death.
In Philippians 2:5-8, Apostle Paul described Jesus as “being in very nature God” but “did not consider equality something to be grasped.” Although Jesus was the truth and came from heaven, he did not exalt himself but “took the very nature of a man” and “humbled himself.” He gave his precious life to save sinners who deserved eternal death. It is this path that allowed him to be testified as Christ.
As we reflect on ourselves, there are many times, we value ourselves more than others, refusing to empty ourselves to save others. We see our time, our dignity, our social status as something to preserve for our sake and not worthy enough to be sacrificed for the good of others. But through the example of Jesus Christ, we discovered the true way to turn from our arrogant ways of exalting ourselves and considering ourselves better than others is to lower ourselves and serve others even if it means giving up our own lives for another’s sake. Through serving, we are esteeming others higher than ourselves and therefore, we learn humility.
