'How to Get Away With Murder' Spoilers: Why Was Annalise Shot?

After the shocking finale of "How to Get Away With Murder," fans finally had many of their questions answered.

The second season of "How to Get Away With Murder" was filled with mysteries, much like that in the previous season. While some argued that it was not as strong as season 1, viewers were still stunned with the outcome.

The previous episodes of the season had been building up the story for who shot Annalise Keating, played by Viola Davis. To cap off season 2, it was revealed that it was Wes, played by Alfred Enoch, who was responsible for the deadly deed.

Apparently, the reason for Wes shooting Annalise was to cover up the death of Sinclair. It was revealed that Sinclair's death was not due to a fall; instead, she died when Asher, played by Matt McGorry, ran her over with his car. With that, the group was to blame the happenings on Catherine.

The twist was that Wes was supposed to shoot Annalise in the leg. However, when he found out that Rebecca had been dead and that Annalise was lying to him the whole time, he ended up shooting her in the chest.

After she was shot, Annalise muttered the word, "Christophe," which had fans wondering just how Annalise and Wes are related. With that, it can be speculated that this is a story line that can be explored in the episodes to come.

The creator and executive producer of the series, Pete Nowalk, shared some details about what fans can expect in the upcoming episodes of "How to Get Away With Murder," during an interview with TV Line. He explained that there is a possibility that the story will evolve into different settings and dynamics.

He said, "I don't ever want the show to have rules to it. Annalise is a law professor right now. Does that mean she always has to be? Does she always have to keep these kids around? I think they're bonded in a way that's for life — or 'til the end of their lives. What's happening in TV now is that you don't have to stick to a formula — and you can't. There's too much else on the air."

"How to Get Away With Murder" will return on Feb. 11, 2016.
