How to Share Your Faith Using The Secret Life of the American Teenager

The secret is finally out. Sweet and impressionable 15-year-old Amy Juergens is pregnant. Rumors have been bouncing off of the catty high schooler's locker for few weeks now.

In "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," Amy is a go-getter. She had each step of her future planned out including attending Julliard after graduating from high school with stellar grades.

But now, her life has been turned upside down. After Amy loses her virginity to drummer Ricky Underwood at band camp, she finds out that she is pregnant. Freaking out with no one to turn to, she continues to live life like nothing happened. But Amy's growing tummy and appetite do not seem to be cooperating. And to top her crazy world off, she finds out that her Dad is having an affair with Adrian's (another girl who plays a major piece in the story line) flight attendant mother. Oh, man. Amy has never felt more alone in her life.

Have you ever felt trapped in an out of control life like Amy - completely alone and at the mercy of an unforgiving world? Fortunately for us Christians, we have our Heavenly Father who takes us under his strong, protective arm and walks with us through the fierce trials of this merciless world. God's Word encourages us with this passage:

But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don't be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows. (Matthew 10:29-31).

Whoa. Our Heavenly Father knows when each bird falls to the ground? And He cares more about us then He does the birds of the sky? Yes, He does. He also knows the number of hairs on each and every one of His children's heads. That is amazing hope and love. But what about our friends and family members who do not know their Heavenly Father?

So try using this TV show "The Secret Life of the American Teenager" to bring up Christ's love to those around you. Here are some questions that can help begin a conversation that can lead to Christ and His Love.

• Who or what do you run to when life gets tough?
• Ask your friends if they believe in God. Have they ever sought out His strength and hope in tough times? Listen, then share a time with them where you felt completely alone in this world and how you were able to lean on the strong arm of your Heavenly Father.
• Ask your friends if they ever turn to prayer when life's worries bog them down. Listen, then share with them how powerful prayer has been in your life.

Many times, we find ourselves feeling alone and helpless like Amy Juergens. Apart from our Heavenly Father, there is no hope. So, boldly step forward and encourage those around you by sharing the ultimate hope – Jesus Christ and all that His life here on earth stood for.
