With the two best friends set to join opposing camps, "How to Train Your Dragon 3" is geared to be a "dueling story," with both Hiccup and Toothless acting in the best interests of their respective species.

There have also been rumors pointing to Drago Buldivist's involvement in the huge and unexpected catastrophe that will reportedly take place in the movie, which is said to be what causes the conflict in the first place.

With Drago left hanging after the Bewilderbeast disappeared into the ocean in "How to Train Your Dragon 2," Hiccup's arch-enemy may be looking for a chance to exact his revenge.

DeBlois told Collider, Drago will be portrayed as a much more complex villain than in the previous film and will be presented as a huge threat to Berk and all its inhabitants, with his actions working for the annihilation of all dragons for good.

The question remains if Toothless and the rest of the other dragons will end up being wiped out by this dragon apocalypse, and if audiences will see them say goodbye to their human tribe for all time.

DeBlois further teased audiences with questions about where the dragons went and the possibility of the dragons' return, confirming that there will be a very sad story in the heart of the upcoming sequel.

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" is expected to premiere in theaters on June 29, 2018.
