'How to Train Your Dragon 3' Rumors: Is Drago the Villain or Valka?

The third and supposedly final installment of "How to Train Your Dragon" is three years away, and while production has a lot of time to work on the story, fans seem to keep wanting more details despite the few hints given.

Reports say that the team behind the first and second movies didn't expect for the franchise to be a massive success. Children and adults alike stormed inside theaters when the movies were released and it's no longer a surprise that a third movie has been coined for 2018.

Earlier reports say the third film will be going back to the beginning of Cressida Cowell's novel series, from which the movie was adapted. In a report by Collider earlier this year, director Dean DeBlois said "Dragon 3" will end at a time when Hiccup has become a man, the same applies to Toothless.

The two best friends are now leaders of their own tribes and they will be faced with the challenge of choosing between their friendship or their own kind. Hiccup will then realize that he can do things without Toothless. This suggests that Toothless and his crew will most likely disappear from Hiccup and his people.

Another trial that Hiccup will have to face is the return of Drago. According to Movie Pilot, DeBlois said of Drago, "You have to wait until the third film to actually see where Drago's character goes. He's a lot more complex."

DeBlois' statements suggest that Drago may either fool the people of Berk and make them believe that he has changed, or he might really become one of the lead protagonists instead. Whatever Drago's character may bring, it sure will be something that fans will look forward to.

Meanwhile, several outlets report that Valka, Hiccup's mother, may be the villain instead of Drago. Some reports said earlier this month that Drago may change for the better. This probably gave the idea that another villain is at hand.

DeBlois has said earlier last year that Valka was the primary villain chosen by production but they decided to replace her with Drago. However, DeBlois' clarifications didn't stop fans from thinking that there may be a huge twist of events that would eventually lead to the explanation as to why dragons are no more.

"How to Train Your Dragon 3" hits big screens on June 29, 2018.
