Howard Stern Sorry for Lena Dunham Diss, New 'Superfan' of 'Girls'
Howard Stern has offered HBO's rising star Lena Dunham his mea culpa after slamming the "Girls" creator last week.
The 59-year-old radio personality made a rare admission of wrongdoing after referring to Dunham as "a little fat girl who kind of looks like Jonah Hill" during his Sirius XM radio show.
"I learned that this little fat chick writes the show and directs the show and that makes sense to me because she's such a camera hog that the other characters barely are on," Stern added during the show.
The shock jock further realized error after sitting down and actually enjoying Dunham's hit HBO series "Girls," and apologized over his radio show on Monday.
"I felt bad because I really do love the show 'Girls,' and enjoy it, and I admire the girl who writes it," Stern said on-air, according to Us Weekly. "It makes me feel bad, and I think she is getting the impression that I somehow think she's just a talentless little fat chick."
Furthermore, Stern deemed himself a "superfan" of Dunham's show, which he said was "really really funny."
While his apology could be interpreted as more of a backhanded compliment, Stern reiterated his opinion of Dunham's appearance, adding: "Good for her. It's hard for little fat chicks to get anything going."
Stern's comments have not gone unnoticed by Dunham, who responded to the actor's jabs while speaking to David Letterman on the "Late Show" last week.
"I wanna get it on my gravestone; 'She was a little fat chick, but she got it goin','" joked Dunham.
Despite criticism toward her appearance, 26-year-old Dunham won big during Sunday's Golden Globe Awards. The actress who also directs "Girls," scooped the awards for Best Comedy and Best Actress in a Comedy.
"This award is for every woman who felt like there wasn't a space for her," Dunham said in her acceptance speech. "This show has made a space for me."
