As soon as you lay your eyes on the HTC One M8 you can't help but notice the elite craftsmanship that went into designing such an aesthetically pleasing smartphone.

The new device towers over the current competition in many ways and certainly solidifies HTC's place in the smartphone market for another year. The company promised to surpass expectations this year with the M8 model and by using the new phone for just one month, I can say that goal has been met.

The original HTC One M7 laid the groundwork for what is a superior device that might not get the attention it deserves. However, that doesn't stop us from telling you what we think about it. Here's what we thought of the specs and features.

Display

The HTC One M8 display is one of the best I have ever seen. Colors seem bright, but sharp. Flesh tones are crisp and lack the blurriness sometimes found on other types. Games look vibrant and refreshing. Performing any activity on this phone that involves video is such a pleasure. In a side by side comparison, the original HTC One outclassed the similar Galaxy S4. It will be interesting to see how the new version stacks up against the S5. I watched "Catching Fire" on the M8, and I have to say, I would strongly recommend checking out movies with great visuals on this device. It's definitely one of the best in this department.

Sound

Riding the train with my Galaxy S4 can sometimes be a real pain if I forget my noise-canceling headphones. The HTC One M8 solves this problem as the volume for music and movies goes louder without sacrificing any clarity. Music sounds just as good at each configuration. The same goes for games and video. With this awesome sound and video quality, the HTC One M8 is the perfect device for those who use their smartphone to consume various forms of media.

Design

The One M8 features a darker, richer and smoother metallic unibody than its predecessor. You hold this phone in your hand and it exhibits class. The DotView case which has some cool effects that allow you to see the time and weather through the holes in the front, but I had to take it off because it took away from the overall look of the phone. This is a beautiful handset that's second-to-none. HTC crafted it to make it complement jewelry, designer clothes, and other high-end accessories and it does exactly that.

Camera

The dual 4-Ultrapixel M8 point and shooter is solid. It takes some great pics and video, however, when you zoom in on a particular object in an image it loses a lot of clarity. This is a bit disappointing considering the fact that other devices with a larger amount of megapixels don't have this same problem. Camera software such as dual-shot is useless and a bunch of other new features just seem like other companies ideas re-packaged and served in HTC format. Nevertheless, it's still a good camera, and with dual lenses it's quite innovative.

Conclusion

The HTC One M8 is one of the most beautiful smartphones ever made. It's an all-around powerhouse of a device that pleases in all departments. It does feel a bit heavy in comparison to other popular handsets, but that doesn't deter from its overall appeal. This is definitely the phone to look for this year. Those who are searching for a new device shouldn't buy anything until they have taken a good look at the M8.
