HTC One M9 vs Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs, Price Review: Features Comparison - Hugely Popular Devices Face Off
HTC and Samsung took the Mobile World Congress 2015 by storm when they announced their new flagship phones for the year. HTC released its One M9, while Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge on March 1 at the Barcelona event. Both devices were the subject of much speculation and rumors prior to their launch, as their predecessors—the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5—have impressed tech fans worldwide. So naturally, both tech manufacturers have taken a lot of care to do even better with the new handsets.
Here, we compare the two devices.
Design:
The HTC One M9 has a metal body just like its predecessor, but the difference is the phone now has defined edges and flattened sides. The phone measures 5.69 x 2.74 x 0.37 inches and weighs 5.5 ounces. The edge of the phone has a slightly different color than the back panel, which gives a dual tone effect. The color variations include a gold edge around a silver body, a silver edge around a dark grey body, and a gold body with a black edge.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy S6 has done away with the plastic body found on earlier Galaxy S phones. The phone is made out of glass and metal, has rounded tops and bottoms and straight sides. It measures 5.6.x 2.8 x 0.27 inches and weighs 4.9 ounces. The phone is available in White Pearl, Black Sapphire, Gold Platinum, and Blue Topaz.
Features:
The One M9 has a 5-inch screen as its predecessor with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 offering a pixel density of 440 pixels per inch. But the S6 has a better resolution as the Samsung phone's 5.1-inch display has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and pixel density of 557ppi.
The HTC phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with HTC Sense skin on top, while the Galaxy S6 has Samsung's own 64-bit octa-core chip set and runs on the Android 5.0 Lollipop with Samsung's new TouchWiz interface.
The Galaxy S6 does not come with a microSD card slot, but it's available in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB storage options. The HTC One M9 comes with only one storage option—32GB, but it can be expanded with a microSD card up to 128GB.
When it comes to cameras, the HTC handset has the advantage since it has a 20MP rear camera and 4MP front-facing shooter. The Samsung phone has a 16MP rear facing camera and 5MP front facing camera.
Price:
The Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to go on sale by April 10 at $855 for the 32GB model, $970 for the 64GB variant, and $1,085 for the 128GB model. Pricing is currently not available for the HTC One M9, but US carriers AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile will reportedly announce their respective pricing soon.
