HTC One Vs. iPhone 5S vs. Galaxy S4: The Smartphone War of 2013

The smartphone battle between the HTC One, iPhone 5S, and the Samsung Galaxy S4 boasts arguably three of the best smartphones that will be released in 2013.

HTC beat the other two companies to the punch by unveiling the One handset before both of them. The One is ahead of last year's pack and comes with some impressive specifications. The device comes with a full HD 4.7-inch display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 468 ppi.

It also features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 APQ8064T quad-core processor paired with an Adreno 320 graphics chip. HTC's newest handset sports an 8-megapixel camera and runs Android 4.1, JellyBean out of the box. Critics have praised its hardware while expressing their disdain for its integration of Android.

The mighty Samsung Galaxy S4 will make its debut in New York City's Radio Music Hall tomorrow. Although no specs have been confirmed for the handset, it is rumored to come with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display, Exynos 5 Octa-core processor, 13-megapixel camera, wireless charging capabilities and software features such as Eye Scroll, which allows the user to scroll up and down using their eyes to look in that direction.

The iPhone 5S is rumored for a summertime or fall release. However, rumored specs for that device seem to be all over the place, as Apple might decide to launch two iPhones this year. The iPhone 5S could feature Apple's new A7 chip when it is released along with improved Siri functionality.

The device's display is expected to remain the same size and resolution and other rumored features include a fingerprint sensor and NFC (near-field-communications) capabilities.

All three devices will impress, but the Galaxy S4 seems to have the most going for it at this point, based on speculation, some of which has been accurate in the past. Critics were disappointed with the software on the HTC One and problems with components have pushed back the launch date for the handset.

The Galaxy S4 will certainly be a success for Samsung. Apple could also make a huge difference if they make some major upgrades to their iPhone instead of tweaking the current model. It is probably in their best interest to refresh the phone in order to better compete with the other two companies.
