HTC U11 Plus Specs, Release Date: Leak Reveals 18:9 Display, More Upgrades but With a Lower Price Tag
The HTC U11 is reportedly getting a Plus version, but this upgrade will not be just about increasing the size.
A report by the French publication Frandroid claims that the HTC U11 Plus, which goes by the codename HTC Ocean Master, will shed its bezels for a taller display.
Admittedly, while the HTC U11 was a standout with its impressive camera and Edge Sense feature, it failed to capture the mobile community due to its chunky bezels that made it look bulky and outdated next to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6.
The company is planning to rectify this in the HTC U11 Plus, which will reportedly come with a 5.99-inch display by Japan Design Incorporated (JDI). It will boast 18:9 aspect ratio and 2,880 x 1,440 screen resolution.
On the hardware side, users are looking at a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 4 to 6 GB of random-access memory (RAM) and 64 to 128 GB of UFS 2.1 storage.
If there is one thing HTC will not be doing in the U11 Plus to serve a mobile trend, it is to add a second camera on the back as many of its competitors did this year.
The company is sticking with its single 12 MP sensor, which was one of the parts of the standard version that many users loved. On the front is the same 8 MP selfie snapper.
The HTC U11 Plus will also come with the Edge Sense feature, which means it will have squeezable sides, which will be interesting to see in action with thinner bezels involved.
It will also come with an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, QuickCharge 3.0 with an 18 Watt Rechargeable Battery (9V/2A) and finally USB-C headphones.
Despite the bump in the specs, HTC is reportedly lowering the price tag of the U11 Plus as the standard version was deemed a bit too expensive at $650.
The HTC U11 Plus is set to be unveiled in China on Nov. 11.
