HTC Vertex Tablet: A Quad-Core Competitor for Nexus 7?

A new tablet by HTC called the Vertex has surfaced in benchmarks this week, and the device seems like it could be a competitor for the upcoming Google Nexus 7, judging by its specs.

The Vertex features a quad-core 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 chip with a display that has 1280 x 752 pixels resolution. It also appears to be running Android 4.0.3, Ice Cream Sandwich and has Sense 4.0. It is unclear whether or not the tablet has a 7 or 10-inch screen, but judging from the processor, it looks like HTC wants to re-establish itself in the tablet market.

Previous rumors have stated that the Vertex with feature a 2-megapixel rear shooter with a front 1.3-megapixel camera. But that information seems to be quite dated at this point.

HTC currently offers two tablets in the market including the Flyer and the JetStream. Both of these devices failed to take off and are quite pricey. It would be smarter for the company to create a solid low-priced tablet, however, this would face the device off against the Google Nexus 7, and that does not seem like the best idea at this point.

The Android-powered Nexus 7 has gained so much hype since its unveiling, and has received rave reviews from various technology publications.

It has even been called a better choice than the iPad for people interested in purchasing a tablet while living on a budget by The Wall Street Journal's Walt Mossberg.

"Google's tablet is a better choice than the iPad for people on a budget; for those who prefer a lighter, more compact tablet that's easier to carry and operate with one hand; and those who prefer Google's ecosystem of apps, services and content to Apple's," said Mossberg in his review of the tablet.
