Huawei Working on Foldable Phone, Slated to Arrive Next Year
While bezel-less is easily becoming the new norm in the mobile scene, manufacturers continue to come up with new trends, this time by taking a spin on a traditional mobile design.
Huawei is the latest company to do just that with the CEO himself Richard Yu confirming that they are working on a foldable device that should see the light of day next year if all goes according to plan.
Speaking to CNET, Yu teased that they are still in the middle of perfecting the mechanical design to be used on the display of the Huawei foldable smartphone:

We have two screens. But we still have a small gap [between the screens]. That's not good, and we should get rid of that gap.
While Yu believes that the Huawei foldable phone could be ready by next year, nothing is set in stone at the moment. He did note that they already have "a working sample."
Huawei is not the only company developing a foldable phone though. In fact, ZTE recently released the Axon M, which features twin screens giving it the appearance of two smartphones glued together.
Its rival Samsung, on the other hand, is also building the same with leaks and reports suggesting that this device will feature a single flexible screen, which means that the company is using an approach very different from Huawei.
In line with this, Yu also talked about their goal to become the top smartphone maker in the world. At the moment, Huawei sits at number three, just behind Samsung and Apple.
We will overtake them definitely. That's our destiny. Maybe I'm not humble ... but nobody can stop us.
It looks like one of Huawei's attempts to make this happen is a foldable device, which users can expect to hear more about in the months to come.
