"Did I mention his mom is amazing? We love you for welcoming him," Weiner wrote in an email to friends on Wednesday.

The good news comes as a relief for the couple who were recently faced with what was undoubtedly one of their most challenging times.

In June 2011 Weiner, a 47-year-old former Democratic U.S. congressman, was forced to resign from politics after serving New York’s ninth congressional district for more than 10 years.

The resignation came as no surprise to the public, after a sex scandal broke involving the former New York City mayoral hopeful and a twitter fan.

Weiner allegedly sent 21-year-old student Gennette Cordova a photo of his crotch, and immediately became the subject of nationwide ridicule with critics pointing out the irony of his last name in the matter.

Although the father of one initially suggested that his Twitter account had been hacked and denied any involvement, he eventually came clean.

At a public press conference Weiner admitted that he "exchanged messages and photos of an explicit nature with about six women over the last three years."

Many critics assumed that Abedin, who married Weiner only a year before the photo scandal, was likely to end their marriage following her husband's admission.

The 35-year-old academic wiz did just the opposite, standing by her shamed husband's side, which ultimately gained her much respect.

Weiner addressed his wife's response to the scandal at a press conference.

"She was very unhappy, she was very disappointed, and she told me as much. And she also told me that she loved me and we're going to get through this," Weiner revealed.

Mother and child are said to be doing well.
