Hunger and Thirst After Righteousness
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they will be filled. -Matthew 5:6 NIV
The person who hungers and thirsts after righteousness is a person with a starving soul a person who has a passionate, insatiable desire to seek after God. This person cannot tolerate being out of fellowship with Jesus. The one thing that will throw this person into depression is a lack of closeness to the Lord. This person will actively correct any problem in a relationship. He will actively correct any problem with coworkers. He will actively correct any problems with his own attitude or behavior. In everything he does, in everything he thinks, in everything he says, he is constantly and continually seeking to be close to God, to be pleasing to God, to glorify God.
He has an unquenchable hunger for God's Word, wanting to know everything he can about the Bible because it helps him to know everything he can about God.
Have you ever fallen in love? How did you feel about that person? Did you want to know everything you could about him? Did you want to be with her every moment possible? Did you agonize when you couldn't be near him, aching for the next time you could touch his hand or hear his voice? Did you think about her constantly, her image invading your every thought, even when you tried to concentrate on something else? I'll bet you can relate to that, can't you?
That's how Jesus wants us to feel about Him. To hunger after Him with our every thought, our every emotion, our every desire. To seek to be with Him at every opportunity. To learn all we can about Him so we can know Him better and better every day. The continual "filling" of that hunger and thirst is the only thing that will bring us true satisfaction - to be "filled" like Jesus said.
Pray for this hunger and thirst within yourself, and seek that quality in those closest to you. Only then will you be filled.
