Hurricane Emilia Rages to Category 4 South of Mexico
Hurricane Emilia has strengthened to a Category 4 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph, as it swirls over the Pacific Ocean south of Mexico, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is currently considered a 'Major Hurricane.'
Early Tuesday morning, Emilia was located about 680 miles (1,095 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California and is moving west-northwest near 12 mph (19 kph). The hurricane was traveling west-northwest at about 12 mph, the NHC reported.
According to the weather agency, Hurricane Emilia is expected to gradually weaken starting tonight into Thursday.

Meanwhile, another hurricane in the Pacific, Hurricane Daniel has weakened to a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph (110 kph). As of early Tuesday, Daniel is centered about 1,440 miles (2,315 kilometers) east of Hilo, Hawaii, and is moving west near 16 mph (26 kph).
According to the National Hurricane Center, Tropical Depression is a storm with wind speeds less than 39 mph; Tropical Storm has wind speeds between 39 mph and 73 mph; Hurricane is a storm with wind speeds between 74 mph and 110 mph; and Major Hurricane has wind speeds greater than 110 mph.
