Howard University School of Divinity is presenting its 89th Annual Convocation with a focus on religion and the media on Nov. 2-3.
Howard University School of Divinity, one of the oldest fully accredited theological schools affiliated with the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada, is presenting its 89th Annual Convocation with a focus on religion and the media on Nov. 2-3.
The 2005 convocation will bring together some of the most influential speakers on this topic, including the Rev. Jim Wallis, author and founder of Sojourners; Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr., pastor of New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md.; the Rev. Dr. Barbara A. Reynold, author and syndicated columnist; and the Rev. Dr. Daly Barnes, pastor of Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pa.
"This year, as we watch the media impact the view of the Church, and watch churches begin to use the media to spread their message, we will gather to discuss Religion and the Media: The Public Face of Prophetic Ministry - which serves as this year's convocation theme," said HUSD Interim Dean Bertram L. Melbourne in a released statement.
The two-day event will feature workshops, worship services, roundtable discussions and a banquet to honor Dean Emeritus Lawrence N. Jones. New officers will also be elected during the HUSD gathering.
"Convocation provides an opportunity for religious, community, and national leaders to gather and exchange information, ideas, and fellowship," said Melbourne. "It brings together people from all positions on both the religious and political spectrum."
Incepted in 1867, Howard University School of Divinity serves as a graduate theological and professional school to educate, form, and empower leaders to serve the church and the world, to celebrate the religious and cultural heritage of African Americans, the African Diaspora and Africa and to engage in the pursuit of excellence in ministry, driven by a passion for justice and freedom and a relentless search for truth.
